Getting to Know Us

So, I don't want to brag, but I have the greatest dogs in the world. I know everyone thinks that, but they are wrong.

There's Benny. A seven year old black and tan short haired dachshund. Benny is an energetic goofball who loves anything that looks like food, especially cheese, a human or like it might squeak. Also heat. He is slightly effeminate, wearing a fleur de lis collar only to accent his leg liftless-peeing style. Benny is also extremely empathetic. You are crying? Benny is there to lick the tears before they have a chance to dramatically roll down your cheek. You're in pain? Benny is barking at the nearest human and leading them to your bedside like a tiny, hairy hero. He really is remarkable. But perhaps the most important thing to know about Benny is that he is absolutely the neediest dog emotionally. He stares at you like he is in pain because he loves you so much. He stares like that constantly. If you are hugging someone, or talking to your neighbor within ear shot, or working on your computer, Benny is there, lurking, waiting for you to glance his way. He will then begin to slowly wag his tail as your eye contact lingers, followed by a less than cat like pounce onto your closest body part. But what really gets the Bean Man, is when attention is paid to Sophie. That is Benny's pet peeve. You can pay attention to them together, but not just Sophie. When petting Sophie, you will suddenly find Benny weaseling his little body between your hand and his female counterpart, as if that is a completely natural response to your behavior.
No matter where you are, what you are doing, or who you are with, Benny is there, waiting for some lovin'.

Then there is Sophie.

Sophie is a six year old nugget. After having her for six years, our vet informed us Sophie is not actually not 100% long haired dachshund. We just thought she was non-traditional, beat of her own drum style. But she is actually a little bit corgi. Sophie is non-tradiotional though. She is just straight up weird. I mean, in a great and flattering way... But still super weird. For example, Sophie doesn't play with toys. She just chews on them until they are saturated in saliva. If you leave a dirty sock in the area, the next day you'll find it in the back yard in her usual chewing spot. Also, she has a usual chewing spot. She puts her head on my foot while I cook or bake in the kitchen. Sophie is also somewhat anti-social. She acts as if she has filled her friend quota, and if someone drops out, she may consider you for the spot, depending on how many treats you give her. I am lucky enough to have made the cut six years running. Sophie knows she's my dog, and that she can get away with pretty much anything just by giving me the eyes. Not like Puss in Boots eyes, more like an adorable Eeyore. Sophie loves food, snow, Flat Katz toys, and secretly she loves to cuddle. Sophie HATES squirrels. She sits at the sliding door and waits for them to make an appearance. She then assails the door, aggressively barking and growling. The squirrels are now used to her and stand about a foot from the door, taunting her. She may be slightly overweight (in a plus sized model sort of way), but she has caught a squirrel as well as an opossum. So she's got the taste for yard game and can't rest until she can enjoy it once more.
Sophie is a truly peculiar dog, but is a constant source of humor.

And me.

I'm Nora, and clearly a crazy dog lady. Or maybe just crazy... Who is to say.
Much to Benny and Sophie's delight, I work at a healthy pet food store, and bring home doggy snacks nearly every time I work.  I love my dogs, family, who include mom Amy, sister Molly and brother/cousin (brousin) Evan and Grandparents, fiancĂ© David, travel, fashion and food. It probably goes without saying that I love to write. I, like both of my wienerly companions, love cheese. Unlike my dogs, I have been vegetarian since 2008.
We are hangin' in the Seattle area.

We'll leave you with this...

P.S.
I promise I will get better photos!
